Plan a batch of a product from its BOM. Kerno scales the BOM to the amount you want to make, checks your stock and shows what the run should cost.
Before you start
The product needs a published BOM. See Publish, version and set the active BOM.
Plan the run
- Go to Production, then Production Runs, and click Plan production run.
- Choose the Product. Products without a published BOM show "(no published BOM)".
- Check the BOM. Kerno chooses the product's active version; pick another published version if you need it.
- Set the Production date, the Operator and the Priority.
- Under Set production quantity, choose Finished output to plan by the units you need, or Batch size to plan by batches or total size.
- Enter the Target output, such as 24 tins. Kerno shows the Batches required. Keep Produce whole batches only checked to round up to complete batches.
- Check Material Requirements. Each material shows the quantity for the run, waste included, what's available and whether it's in stock. The Production summary shows the expected production cost and cost per unit.
- Click Start Production.
When every material is available, the run opens in Draft with its own batch number, such as PR-1002. When something is short, Kerno asks you to check inventory first.
Good to know
- Available is what's on hand less what other runs have reserved.
- The expected cost adds materials, labor from the BOM's steps, electricity and overhead.
- Assign to customer links the run to a customer as a reference only. Nothing is reserved for them.
- Notes are shown to operators on the run.
- The Production page lists every run with its status, planned output, date, operator and availability, and filters by status, product, BOM and operator.
