Publish, version and set the active BOM

Lock a BOM so production runs can use it, and change it later without losing the old recipe. Each change is a new version, and one version per product is the active one.

Publish a BOM

  1. In the BOM builder, check that everything under TO PUBLISH is checked off, then click Publish BOM.
  2. Check the BOM name and Version. Kerno names the BOM after the product and version; change the name if you use your own. The version must be unique for the product.
  3. Click Publish.

The BOM shows Published and is read-only. The first published BOM of a product is its Active version.

Change a published BOM

  1. Open the published BOM and click New version. Kerno copies it into a new draft, such as v2.0.
  2. Make your changes.
  3. Click Publish BOM, then Publish.
  4. Click Set as active to make the new version the default.

Until you set it as active, the new version is published but not the default. Production planning can still choose it; it offers the active version first. Versions on the right lists every version of the product, which one is active and whether it has production runs.

Good to know

  • To publish, a BOM needs a primary finished good with a quantity per batch, a valid cost allocation, and units that convert to each material's inventory unit. Every quality check needs its criteria and standard.
  • Older versions stay published after you set a new active version.
  • The three-dot menu on a BOM has Duplicate as new draft and Archive.
