The ingredient library
Updated October 28, 2026
The ingredient library holds the oils and additives your recipes are built from: the SAP values, fatty acids and soap properties of each oil, and the usual dosage of each additive. Go to Formulations, then Ingredient Library.
Where ingredients come from
- Kerno ingredients: Kerno's reference data, 180 ingredients. Read-only.
- My Ingredients: ingredients your workspace enters. Click Create New Ingredient to add one.
- Shared by users: ingredients from other Kerno workspaces. Read-only.
Two more counters sit beside them. Linked to a material counts the ingredients tied to one of your materials, which is what brings in costing, inventory and BOMs. Missing data counts My Ingredients that can't be used in calculations yet.
Find and compare oils
- Switch between Oils and Additives with the tabs.
- Narrow the list with All sources, or search for an oil, supplier or SKU.
- Sort by name, popular, commonly used or My Ingredients first. Oils can also be sorted by one property: hardness, longevity, cleansing, conditioning, lather, creaminess, iodine or INS.
- Select up to four oils to compare them. The soap properties shown are for the oil used on its own.
Good to know
- When you import soap recipes, each one opens as a draft matched to Kerno's ingredients and yours. See What you can import, and in what order.
- Show archived includes archived ingredients in the list.
