Share a recipe with a link or the Kerno community

Share a recipe through a read-only link you send to someone, or list it in the Kerno Soap Community, where other soap makers can start their own recipes from it. Your costs, suppliers and inventory stay private either way.
Share a read-only link
- Open the recipe and click Share in the toolbar.
- Under A read-only link, click Link settings.
- Under Link expires, choose 7 days, 30 days, 90 days or Never. 30 days is selected to start.
- Under Include, clear Recipe notes or Photo to leave them off the link.
- Type a Label if you want to remember who got the link, such as Wholesale buyer or Soap class. Only you see it.
- Click Create link and copy.
The link opens a view-only page: ingredients, amounts, lye and water, and soap properties. Nobody can edit the recipe from there, and your costs, suppliers and inventory aren't on it.
Think of the link as a snapshot. Later changes to the recipe don't reach it, so make a new link to share them. Active links for this recipe, in the same dialog, shows every link you've made and lets you revoke one early. Once a link is revoked or expired, it shows "This link has expired" and nothing else.
Share with the Kerno community
- Click Share, then Share with the community. On an approved recipe, Share with the Kerno community under the approval opens the same dialog.
- Check the Name in the community (up to 60 characters). Your recipe keeps its own name.
- Under Shown as, choose how the by-line reads: A Kerno soap maker to stay anonymous, your business name, or your name and business.
- If you like, add a Description and a Preview photo, and choose what to Include: Recipe notes and Recipe photos. Descriptions can run to 300 characters, without links or contact details. If you skip the photo, Kerno draws a bar or a liquid soap in your recipe's colors.
- Pick the tags that fit: method, skill, use, formulation, scent and special characteristics. You can add up to 3 tags of your own.
- Click Preview as others see it to check the listing, then click Submit for review.
What goes out and what stays private
- Goes out: the oils and their shares, superfat and water; the lye type and purity, additives and their doses; the soap properties; your preview photo and notes, if you add them.
- Stays private: costs, materials, suppliers and inventory; the product, its BOM and your other versions; supplier names and prices of your own ingredients; your name and business, unless you choose to show them.
What happens next
Kerno staff look at every new listing, tags included, before it goes live, usually within a day. You get an email either way. Go to Formulations, then Community, to see the Kerno Soap Community and Your shared recipes.
Good to know
- Only people who can approve recipes in your workspace (its admins) can share a recipe, edit its listing or stop sharing.
- A listing's name, cover, description, tags and by-line are public on the web. The recipe itself is only for signed-in Kerno members.
- Readers are told that community recipes and tags come from soap makers, not from Kerno, and that Kerno doesn't verify them.
- You can change the by-line later from Edit the listing.
