Product types and selling prices

Updated October 27, 2026

Every product has a type, which groups your products, and a selling price, which Kerno compares with the product's cost to show your margin.

Product types

The product types you can choose come from your business type. An Artisans workspace offers Candles, Soap, Bath & Body, Home Fragrance, Ceramics & Pottery, Jewelry, Textiles & Fiber Goods, Wood & Leather Goods, Craft & Decor and Other Handmade Goods. The type also picks the picture Kerno shows for a product without an image, and the attributes it suggests for variants.

To add your own type:

  1. In Product type, choose + Add a new type....
  2. Type its name, such as Gift Sets.
  3. Click Add type.

Custom types are saved to your workspace, so you can use them on other products. On the Products page, filter by type with All types.

Selling prices

A product's Selling price is the price of the product and of every variant that doesn't set its own. To price one variant differently, edit the variant and enter its own Selling price. Leave it blank to go back to the product's price.

Margins

Kerno works out a product's margin from its selling price and its current cost. The cost comes from a published BOM's estimate or a completed production run. Until then, the cost and margin show as not set. Once both are known, the margin shows on the product's page, on the Products page and in Margins on Home.
