Add variants (scent, size, vessel)

Use variants when you make one product in several scents, sizes or formats. Each variant gets its own SKU, BOM, cost, price and stock, while the product keeps them together.

Set up variants

  1. Open the product, click the Variants tab, then Set up variant attributes. If you turned on variants when you created the product, this opens by itself.
  2. Keep the attributes that apply. Kerno suggests attributes for your product type, such as Scent, Size, Wax Type, Vessel and Color for candles. To add your own, use Add another attribute.
  3. Click Continue.
  4. Choose the options you offer for each attribute. Click an option to remove it, or type a new one in Add another.... Kerno shows how many variants your choices make.
  5. Click Continue.
  6. Uncheck any combination you don't make, then click Create followed by the number of variants (for example Create 4 variants).

The Variants tab lists each variant with its SKU, attributes, stock, unit cost and price. Each one starts with the product's selling price.

Give a variant its own price

  1. On the Variants tab, click the three dots on the variant's row, then Edit.
  2. Enter its Selling price. Leave it blank to use the product's price.
  3. Click Save variant.

Good to know

  • Variant SKUs are made from the product SKU and the options, such as SCT-0006-LAV-8OZ.
  • To add more options later, use Manage attributes & generate on the Variants tab. To add one variant by hand, use Add variant.
  • The three-dot menu on a variant also has View inventory, Create BOM, Deactivate and Archive.
  • Each variant has its own BOM, so a 4 oz and an 8 oz candle can use different amounts of wax.
