Create and ship a customer order

Record an order for your finished goods, set the stock aside for it and ship it. An order moves from Pending to Allocated, then Shipped.

Before you start

You need finished goods in stock to allocate. See QA and finished-goods lots.

Create, allocate and ship

  1. Go to Orders and click Create Order.
  2. Choose Existing customer, or New customer and type the Customer name. Email and Phone are optional.
  3. Choose the Source, such as Direct, Website, Etsy or Market or event, and the Order Type: Standard, Wholesale, Pre-order or Sample / Gift.
  4. Check the Order Date and add a Requested ship date if the customer gave one.
  5. Choose the Product / variant, enter the Quantity and check the Unit price. It defaults to the variant's selling price. Click Add product for more lines.
  6. Click Create Order.
  7. On the order's page, click Allocate Inventory. Kerno reserves the units from your finished-goods lots.
  8. Click Ship Order, add a Shipment note such as the carrier or tracking number, and click Confirm shipment.

What happens next

The shipped units leave finished-goods inventory from the allocated lots. The order's Summary now shows the Cost of goods sold, taken from the lots' production cost, and the Gross margin. Activity lists each allocation and shipment with its lot.

Good to know

  • While you enter an order, each line shows the stock available and the Net Available left after it.
  • Kerno numbers orders, such as SO-1001.
  • Cancel Order and Delete are on the order's page.
  • The Orders page has tabs for Pending, Allocated, Shipped and Canceled, and shows open orders, open demand and what shipped this month.
